All wrapped up - baby swaddling is making its comeback
While baby swaddling isn't a new technique, the use of natural, safe fibres, such as merino wool is. Leading the revival of baby swaddling,
Merino Kids founder and designer, Amie Nilsson used original biblical wraps as inspiration for her award-winning Cocooi Wrap.
Made from 100% natural merino wool, the Cocooi Wrap plays on the arch-old technique of swaddling baby - however, the Cocooi Wrap delivers much more than just using a blanket or sheet.
Because of the innovative use of merino wool, Nilsson's Cocooi Wrap is more than a typical babywrap. Inherent thermal properties absorb moisture to cool baby down when they are hot and also have the ability to warm them up when they are cold.
Nilsson says the Cocooi Wrap's heat regulating properties are a significant plus because Sudden Infant Death Syndrome is associated with overheating.
"In hot conditions merino moves the heat away from the baby's body to the outer part of the garment, and in colder conditions it insulates. In a synthetic bag the moisture builds up on the inside of the garment and then, when it cools down, it becomes cold and damp."
During tests run on the Cocooi Wrap, grateful parents found their babies settled faster and slept much better than on normal blankets. Swaddling is proven to give baby a sense of security, mirroring pressure on the body it would have felt in the womb, and also prevents baby from flailing their arms and legs around in their sleep. In 2005, US scientists proved that swaddling helps babies sleep more deeply.
And it seems the technique is popular with celebs too - Gwyneth Paltrow and Heidi Klum have been spotted out and about with their bubs swaddled in blankets.
Angelina Jolie has been sent two Cocooi Wraps following the arrival of her new twins.
So don't fret over getting bub to sleep - go back to basics and try the swaddling technique, proven to solve those sleepless nights and soothe baby right through the night.
