February is "Doing
Business in
Your Bathrobe Month"
If you're a home-based entrepreneur, it's
time to don your bathrobe as "Doing Business in Your Bathrobe
Month" approaches in February, 2008.
Bathrobes are no longer for lounging around. Rather, they are the emblem
of freedom for an ever-growing, hard-working and focused group of people
known as work-from-home entrepreneurs.
"Doing Business in your Bathrobe" began in the US in 2003
as a celebration of working from home and has since taken the world
by storm. With February being the official month, celebrations take
place throughout February. This fun event is now celebrated across the
globe – in Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Canada,
the United Kingdom and Ireland.
This day was instigated by www.webmomz.com
as a way to recognise and honour the millions of home-based entrepreneurs
for their dedication and determination. Each year, more and more people
are taking control of their own lives; creating a balance between the
various aspects of their lives aside from work.
Melbourne-based Business Mums Network promotes "Doing Business
in your Bathrobe Month" in Australia as a way to support Mums
who have chosen to take charge of their own life and juggle working
from home with family life.
Business Mums Network founder, Melissa Khalinsky, admits she's
been caught working in her PJ's several times.
"It's not something I do everyday, but just knowing you
can is very empowering. More and more women are leaving the corporate
world to work from home. You get to schedule your work around your life.
You choose your own career path, work hours and rates. You don't have
to compete with anyone but yourself," says Melissa.
Business Mums Network began in July 2002 as a support and educational
network for the myriad of Australian mothers wanting to create a balance
between the demanding combination of caring for their children and working.
Along with publicising this annual event in Australia, Business Mums
Network is holding a "Doing Business in Your Bathrobe" online
scavenger hunt. They are also encouraging people to flaunt their flexibility
by wearing their bathrobes to work during February and to get together
with other Business Mums in their local area, to celebrate the wearing
of bathrobes!
