Winter warmers at Centennial Parklands - activities for kids and adults alike

Winter doesn’t have to mean staying indoors, especially with a host of new activities available at Centennial Parklands (Sydney) that will amuse and enthuse visitors of all ages. Adults can book into cycling, art and photography classes, Busby’s Bore Walk, Birdwatcher’s Breakfast, a Tree Tour and the popular Spotlight Prowls which are fun for the whole family; or bundle up the kids in their coats and beanies for affordable fun in the park where kids can play and learn in a safe outdoor environment.

Keeping active throughout the cooler months and preventing winter weight gain can be a challenge, but with activities such as the Adult Cycling Skills class kicking off the program on Saturday 13 June 2009, it is easy to get outside and on the move. Qualified Cycling Australia coach, educator and personal trainer, Geoff Nash, leads the three and a half hour session aimed at improving cycle skills to practice and incorporate into everyday cycling. Learn insightful tips and build your confidence for cycling in a modern city environment.

Parents with pre-schoolers aged two to five will delight in new activities for youngsters such as Noisy Nocturnal Neighbours where children will learn about nocturnal animals and how they are designed for night living. Wonderful Wriggly Worms presents information about water worms and earth worms, or for kids who want to discover more creepy crawlies, Unbelievable Bugs continues to be a popular choice. For art, craft and learning about different animals, plants and Park life, parents can book their children into Littlies By The Pond.

Drawing Birds is a new class for children over five years old, as is the Wildlife Workshop: Possum Pals where kids can help the Rangers install a possum box for ‘Lochie’ the orphaned possum. At the Junior Arborists: What’s Eating My Tree session, also for kids over five years of age, children will pot their own seedling to take home. They will also learn interesting facts about looking after trees and insects that live and feed on trees in the Parklands.

Popular kids activities remain on the program including My Little Ponies, Pony Rides, Jewellery and Candle Making, Model Gliders/Kites/Yachts, Ranger for a Day, Orienteering and Mini-Rogaine. Sporting camps include netball, soccer, tennis, cycling, horse riding and golf lessons.

Bookings for all activities in the winter program are open from the 1 June. To book and for information phone (02) 9339 6699 or visit www.centennialparklands.com.au.
