Healthy, happy kids will love NEW Centennial Park activities this school holidays Dreams come true with pony rides in the Park or visit the Centennial Parklands Equestrian Centre opposite the Park for ‘My Little Ponies’ to learn about where horses live, what they eat and horse care. Horse Riding Camps are also a popular school holiday activity and range from one to three days in length. Parents looking for something different for their child’s next birthday will love Birthday Parties in the Park. A selection of themes for three to twelve your olds will excite every child. The Spotlight Prowl will delight kids and adults as the night sky brings out flying foxes, possums and other nocturnal creatures discovered by torchlight. Adults can also participate in a range of activities such as landscape and wildlife drawing, birdwatcher’s breakfast and Busby’s Bore Walk where Park visitors can learn about the underground drinking water supply of early Sydney with retired Sydney Water historian Jon Breen. Centennial Park is an environment built for people to enjoy with wide open spaces for kicking a ball, walking, riding or simply having your own picnic space. For everyday fun, bike hire is a cheap and cheerful way to spend a day outdoors with a dedicated learner cycle path available to make reaching this milestone safe and enjoyable. Sporting ovals can be hired for occasional games or seasonal matches and a host of professionally run sport camps will ensure children have a healthy holiday with new friends and experiences. Centennial Parklands has adopted the ‘Healthy Parks, Healthy People’ initiative of Parks Victoria which links improved physical, mental, spiritual and social health with nature. Endorsed by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and the Heart Foundation , parks have positive effects on mental and physical wellbeing as outlined in a study by Deakin University in 2008#. The research emphasises that public parks play an essential role in public health as they are readily available and sometimes the only source of nature for people living in urban areas. Centennial Park is Sydney’s park in the city, a haven for flora and fauna and a space for human interaction with nature, for improved health and wellbeing.
