Puppets out of the box and in the Square - affordable fun at Federation Square Melbourne!

Federation Square is set to come alive with a children’s puppet playground during the July school holidays.

In collaboration with ArtPlay, Snuff Puppets, Polyglot Puppet Theatre, ACMI and Yarra Trams, Fed Square will host a week-long program of puppet shows, roving performances, puppet workshops, films and parades.

The range of free and affordable activities will delight visitors of all ages and provide parents with an instant cure to the school holiday refrain, “I’m bored”.

The puppet program will include;

Roaming Puppets
Giant seagulls, elephants and snails will rove through Fed Square each day entertaining both ‘little’ and ‘big’ visitors with their crazy antics.
When: 6 July: 10.00am – 10.30am; 12.00pm – 12.30pm; 2.00pm – 2.30pm
Cost: Free

Hissy Fit Puppet Show
Kids will love this free puppet show featuring a grumpy child-hating snake charmer who loses his snake and throws a hissy fit! Recommended for children aged 5 – 10 years old.
When: 7, 9, 10, 11 July: 11.00am – 11.30am; 1.00pm – 1.30pm; 3.00pm – 3.30pm
12 July: 9.30-10.00, 11.30-12.00pm, 2.30-3.00pm
Cost: Free

Puppet Films
Snuggle up in a beanbag and enjoy free, puppet-inspired films each morning in The Atrium.
Films include:

ArtPlay at The Atrium - Sock Puppets
Get creative at Fed Square, with ArtPlay’s sock-puppet making workshop in the Atrium. For more puppet workshops, ArtPlay's PuppetLab will also be held throughout the week at the ArtPlay building.

Kids’ Flicks
Noddy and Friends (G)
Noddy gets up to all sorts of mischief in these classic stories sourced from the ACMI Collection, such as Noddy Gets Into Trouble, Noddy and Tessie Bear, Noddy Be Brave and Noddy Goes to School.
Total running time: 64 minutes.

Kids in the Studio
In this fun workshop coinciding with Puppets at Fed Square, kids will make their own clay figures before bringing them to life using stop motion animation and modern digital techniques. Workshops are free and kids can take their clay friends home. Recommended for children aged 5 – 13 years old.
Where: ACMI, Studio 1
When: Weekdays between 29 June - 10 July
Drop in any time between 12pm and 4pm

Processional Puppets Parade
Don’t miss the processional puppet parade where kids of all ages will demonstrate their puppetry skills to march pre-made ArtPlay puppets around Birrarung Marr and Fed Square.
