Lunchbox relief for mums as John West offers 'brain food' for children

Are you lacking inspiration for healthy and convenient lunchbox food? Are you one of the 63%1 of Australian mums who find it difficult to pack a healthy lunch for their child? If so, help is at hand - just in time for the start of the new school year.

Omega-3 is big news in the 'brain food' arena but how can you be sure your child is getting enough? It's easy to be confused by the plethora of health messages around children's nutrition but John West is now offering mums a simple solution to lunchbox and snacking dilemmas with their tuna for kids range.

The new John West Kids range of flavoured tuna comes in an easy to open, 75g plastic tub - eliminating the worry of children cutting themselves or making a mess on opening tins. The tubs have also been specially formulated with low liquid to ensure there's no danger of embarrassing spillage. The single servings are perfect for school lunchboxes or as a nutritious snack after school and contain all natural ingredients.

Reassuringly for mums, just one tub of John West Kids provides a child under the age of 13 with 100% of their daily adequate intake of omega-32. Studies show that omega-3 DHA is a key building block for a healthy, functioning brain and body. One of the best sources of omega-3 is fish, and tuna is an easy and accessible option for both mums and kids.

Shane Bilsborough MSc, independent nutritionist comments, "Omega-3 DHA is essential for brain development and function. There is also scientific evidence to show that omega-3s may play a supportive role in behaviour, learning and concentration in children."

Professor Andrew Sinclair of Deakin University comments, "Omega-3 DHA is really important for the optimal functioning of the brain. Children are not eating enough DHA and having different flavoured tuna is a really good way of providing the daily needs for these essential nutrients".

The new John West Kids range of flavoured tuna allows children to have all the benefits of omega-3 in their diet without having to turn to pills or supplements - a growing trend amongst parents who are unsure about what constitutes an adequate omega 3 intake.

"Getting omega-3 from tuna is particularly beneficial as it also provides children with a good source of protein and contains other important nutrients such as vitamins and minerals. As well as being nutrient rich, it is low in fat and the protein tuna contains will fill children up, helping to maintain a healthy bodyweight," continues Bilsborough.

John West Kids come in three tasty flavours - Plain, Tomato and Sweetcorn & Mayo so not only will children enjoy eating their delicious snack, but they'll also be helping their brain functionality at the same time with a day's worth of omega-3 in every tub2.

John West Kids is available from leading supermarkets at an RRP of $3.29 for a twin pack.
