Parents and children spoilt for choice with launch of new children's furniture range, 'Miss Tati & Friends'

Melbourne based businesswoman and mother, Katarina Pavlovic is on a mission. She is single-handedly taking on the producers of poor quality, mass produced children's furniture and the creators of boring bedrooms and naff nurseries by offering a high quality, unique and creative alternative – "Miss Tati & Friends".

Ms Pavlovic and her designer/manufacturer husband John launched their hand-painted children's furniture and bedroom accessory business in January 2009 via their online store www.misstatiandfriends.com Early interest means that Katarina's mission just might be accomplished.

The Miss Tati & Friends current collection is made up of six, fully coordinated bedroom ranges that are designed to grow with the child (from newborn to teenager). Each range features up to seven pieces, many with clever or cost saving design features such as a cot (complete with toddler bed conversion kit), baby change trays (designed to fit within bedroom dressers), single beds, bedside tables, dresser/drawer sets (in three sizes), a bookcase/armoire and a toy box with a drop in tray for storing small items.

Individually hand painted artwork by leading Australian artists is featured on every item and forms the inspiration for the six ranges entitled ‘Oriental Princess', ‘Miss Lily' and ‘Provence' (for girls) and ‘Lil'Buccaneer', ‘Surfs Up' or ‘Captain Cutthroat' (for boys). Exclusive, artisan lighting, bedding, artwork and accessories are also available in order to complete a fully coordinated bedroom. Most importantly there's not a duck or teddy bear in sight!

Miss Tati & Friends founder, Ms Pavlovic explains the early beginnings of the business:

"With the arrival of my first child I was amazed at the lack of inspiring, affordable or well made children's furniture. We simply could not find anything of suitable quality or style for our daughter's nursery."

"My husband John, who has a background in fine art, design and manufacturing, came to the rescue. John made our first prototype range and the response from friends and family was overwhelming," Katarina said. Miss Tati & Friends was born.

This labour of love has been a few years in the making however. Katarina and John's daughter Tatiana or ‘Tati' as she is affectionately known, is now six years old. Tati still happily plays in her bedroom, in amongst her bespoke furniture that has formed the creative catalyst for the "Oriental Princess" range.

John adds that the response from fathers has been very positive: "Many Dads see our furniture as functional works of art for their child."

"When you consider the money that some parents outlay for their children's furniture over a lifetime it is staggering. Miss Tati & Friends represents real value for money. It literally develops as your child does," he said.

For time-strapped parents the Miss Tati & Friends website features an easy ‘design a room' section where 15 completely coordinated nurseries and 12 bedrooms (complete with furniture, bedding, lighting and décor items) can be viewed and ordered with a click of a mouse!

Much of the product is exclusive to Miss Tati & Friends with some items (such as the artisan lighting) unavailable elsewhere in Australia. The end result is a room a child can really call their own.
