How Focusing on Positive Actions Reduces Negative Behaviour in Children
For most parents, the idea of discipline is one that is accompanied by an action of removing a privilege, ie. child misbehaves they lose their favourite toy for a set period of time, child misbehaves they lose the right to attend a party or event. Children have become accustomed to the fact that if they are naughty their negative actions will be met with a negative consquence. Unfortunately, whilst this process stops the behaviour at the time it doesn't encourage further good behaviour or a positive change in a child's behaviour.
Australian store, Baby House, is the exclusive importer and distributor of the Award winning, My Choice Chart. The My Choice Chart focuses on the positive actions children take on a daily basis rather than the negative ones thereby instilling self confidence and boosting self esteem on a daily basis.
Whilst the chart has been produced by an American Mum it has been adapted to only contain Australian spelling. There is some American language in the instruction booklet only. The chart's main focus is on the family encouraging each other to be positive and make positive choices.
The chart can be used for the whole family and is based on the family choosing 6 positive action traits and one family fun activity each week. Each time a child shows one of the 6 positive traits, they are able to place a star on the chart. At the end of the week the family participates in the fun family activity as a celebration of all the positive choices made during the week.
Highlights of the chart are:
- My Choice Chart™ is not a rewards based system - it is an interactive tool used to support ongoing character development.
- Friendly reminder for parents to focus on the positive aspects of their children.
- Designed for one or more children.
- Positive feedback is one of the most important tools parents have to improve children's behaviour and self esteem.
- The chart is of a sturdy construction and easily hung on any wall as a daily reminder of positive actions.
- The chart can be personalised for each child in the family.
- Reinforcing positive actions and choices encourages a reduction in negative behaviour.
