Make barbecuing 'food safe' this summer with Rubbermaid

Summer is almost here and there is nothing Australians love more than bringing family and friends together for a leisurely outdoor barbecue.

Food storage safety is a much overlooked part of outdoor eating – heat, mixing cooked and uncooked food and the correct storage of leftovers are among a few of the dangers that if not appropriately handled, could have dire consequences.

Rubbermaid Premier™ Containers have recently launched in Australia and will help you overcome even the most difficult barbecue dilemmas, including preparation, defrosting and cleaning up.

Here are some great barbecue tips!

  • Save time by preparing your foods, such as salads and marinades for meat and storing them in advance. Make sure you keep them in a well sealed container to keep them air-tight and fresh
  • Be sure to completely defrost your barbeque meat so that it cooks evenly. Use a freezer and microwave safe food storage container, so you can defrost your meat straight from the freezer in the microwave
  • Keep all thawing meat in the fridge in a well sealed and clean food storage container to avoid cross contamination
  • If you are entertaining outside and away from a fridge, keep meats, salads and other perishable foods in a cooler with plenty of ice. If you have access to a fridge, leave your food in it until just before you are ready to start cooking
  • Pre-heat the barbecue in advance and make sure it is suitably hot enough for cooking before commencing
  • Refrigerate any leftovers promptly and be sure to discard any food left out for more than 2 hours to avoid bacteria and health danger
  • Food such as poultry, burgers, sausages and pork should be cooked through the middle and not be pink. If possible, fully pre-cook all poultry and sausages, then take them straight to the barbecue to add the final barbecue flavour
  • Raw food and cooked food should be kept apart at all times. Don't handle cooked foods with utensils that have touched raw meats or put cooked or ready-to-eat food on plates that have held raw meats
  • Keep bowls and plates of food covered to prevent dust and insects, including those pesky summer flies, from ruining your meal!

Easy Seal, Easy Clean and Easy Store™ Rubbermaid Premier™ Containers make the perfect food storage companion for outdoor entertaining for three simple reasons.

Rubbermaid Premier Container Lids are specifically designed to lock in freshness and are easy to seal and remove, even straight from the freezer, making them perfect for every family member, even Grandma and Grandpa.

Secondly you’ll never lose your lid again with Rubbermaid Premier Containers’ Easy Find™ lids system, with lids that conveniently snap to the bases of the container.

Finally, as well as being dishwasher safe, Rubbermaid Premier™ Containers come with a lifetime guarantee.

Available in six sizes ranging from 296ml to 3.1L and retailing from $5.95, the Rubbermaid Premier Containers range can be found in Coles, Spotlight and other major retailers across Australia.
