Jay and Georgie Come out to Play - Sydney Childrens Festival

Much loved stars of Australian screen and stage Georgie Parker and Jay Laga’aia will entertain the kids this school holidays as performers and ambassadors of Sydney Children's Festival at CarriageWorks. Running from 03 October across the two weeks of the school holidays, the second-ever Sydney Children's Festival is chock-a-block with AMAZING ACTS, SPELLBINDING STORIES, WICKED WORKSHOPS and EXCITING EXHIBITIONS. And the best part, the lion’s share of the festival is totally free!

Starring with the Sydney Children’s Festival Choir – a one hundred strong choir comprised of Sydney’s songloving children and their adult friends, is Georgie Parker, one of Australia’s favourite performers and mother of eight year-old Holly. The performance will mark the official Festival Opening Party on Saturday 03 October 2009, with the coral concert kicking off at 2:30pm, followed by a Kids Dance Party for kids and their accompanying grups (grown-ups). Families can party into the early hours of the evening until 7pm, with a live DJ spinning the latest tunes and old skool dance music anthems. This is the real-deal for parents who miss their clubbin’ days – complete with red cordial, a chill-out zone, pram parking and more.

Heading up the Festival’s Living Library is Jay Laga'aia. He’s had plenty of experience as father of eight children, singer, songwriter and one of Australia’s most prolific performers. Jay appears as a real life “book” alongside a fireman, a fairy, a farmer called Frank and many other real people with fascinating stories to tell. Kids can borrow and read “Living Books” at Living Library and be swept away in the real life stories told by their books.

Created to inspire children from 5 – 12 years old and their families the Festival is focused around Circus inspired week one (5-10 Oct) and storytelling themed week two (12-17). Festival entry to CarriageWorks is free, as are most activities; with some ticketed events and workshops, which can be booked.

A full festival program is available on the Festival website www.sydneychildrensfestival.com with a spot to sign up for regular alerts to keep ahead of program of activities and special events.
