SYDNEY CHILDREN'S FESTIVAL WORKSHOPS

27 September - 11 October 2008

In the October school holidays, Sydney Children's Festival rocks into CarriageWorks and transforms every corner of this immense building into an artistic playground for Sydney children aged 5 - 15. Mark it on your calendar now - block out the whole holidays! There are loads of performances, workshops and free activities for every child to get stuck into. Here is a taste of just a few of the workshops:

VISUAL ARTS WORKSHOPS
WORKSHOPS WITH BESS O'MALLEY FROM PINE STREET CREATIVE ARTS CENTRE

Please note: All children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian at the Visual Arts Workshops listed below. Parent ticket is included in ticket price.

TABLE TOP STEAM ENGINE	$20 pp. Limited to 20 places
Use soft sculptors wire to make a model of a steam engine.

PAPER FLOWER BONNET	$20 pp. Limited to 20 places
Use paper and ribbon to make an 1880's bonnet, decorate with flowers and parade through the foyer.

MASKED BANDITS	$20 pp. Limited to 20 places
Choose from a range of mysterious mask templates and make you bandit unqiue.

TEEN ZINE $20 pp.	Limited to 20 places
Design your own Zine in magazine format with a front cover and staple together.

PASTEL NATURE STUDY	$20 pp. Limited to 20 places
Make an artwork from close up observations of natural objects, leaves, twigs and gumnuts.

TABLE TOP DINOSAUR	$20 pp. Limited to 20 places
Use soft sculptors wire to make a model of your favourite dinosaur, and decorate it with colourful resin beads.

PAPER FLOWER WAND	$20 pp. Limited to 20 places
Cast magic loves spells wherever you go. Make a colourful magic wand and decorate it with paper flowers.

PASTEL PORTRAIT	$20 pp. Limited to 20 places
Create a portrait in the style of Modigliani, Matisse or Picasso using soft dry pastels.

MASKED PARADE	$20 pp. Limited to 20 places
Choose from a range of mask templates or design your own, and fit your mask for a parade through the Festival.

DANCE WORKSHOPS

HIP HOP \| With Nick Power aka B*Boy Rely	$10 pp. Limited to 25 places
Learn hip hop with Australian legend, B*Boy Rely. Cool workshops where the kids learn some fun exercises and a funky routine. 30 minutes.

CONTEMPORARY DANCE \| With Kate Champion	$10 pp. Limited to 20 places
Kate Champion is a choreographer and director of dance based physical theatre. A playful and highly physical hour that will demonstrate ways to invent movement that can be used to communicate ideas, emotions and stories. 1 hour.

INDIGENOUS DANCE \| With Matthew Doyle	$10 pp. Limited to 30 places
Matthew Doyle is one of Australia's leading indigenous performers. Starting with an explanation and demonstration of the symbolism and significance of Aboriginal dance, students will learn two traditional dances and an improvised piece. 1 hour.

CREATIVE ARTS WORKSHOPS

CARTOONING WITH MATT OTTLEY	$15 pp. Limited to 30 places
In this fun-filled creative workshop, Matt shows you the secrets behind cartooning and helps you create your own story with pictures! 1 hour.

FREE AND OPEN AUDIO \| A workshop in sound	FREE. Limited to 12 places
Learn how to download and use a special free audio program on your computer – and just like the wizzes who make wacky sounds for your favourite films, you can make a soundtrack of your own! 2 hours.

PERFORMING IN PUBLIC SPACES \| A workshop in improvisation	$60 for 2 days. 20 places.
This workshop will give you an introduction to moving and performing as improvisers in public space. 3 day workshop for 2 hours each day.

MONSTER AND DINO PUPPETS \| A workshop with Erth	$55 for full day. 10 places.
Children create silhouette monsters with moving parts. A practical and creative exercise, children will learn how to use light and shadow to make their creation come to life, making something small look REALLY big.
